Sounds facile, I know. But it turns out to be absolutely true.
You know that line in the Bible, “as above, so below”? That’s a mistranslation. It’s actually “the above is of the below, and the below is of the above.”
It’s fractal, friends. Cycles within cycles within cycles, all the way down.
So to change the larger pattern, first you gotta change the smaller one.
The trick, of course, is picking the right thing to change.
To do that, you first need to know where you’re trying to get and what’s in your way.
And to do that, you need to get in touch with your internal navigation system: your DESIRE.
See, desire comes from “de sidere,” meaning “waiting for what the stars will bring.” In other words, your destiny.
If your destiny is the goal, your desire is the GPS signal that leads you there.
The moment you stop judging your desire is the moment you become capable of fulfilling it.
So often, we bob through life aimlessly, allowing our path to be determined by those around us. And then we wonder why we aren’t where we want to be.
We think we can’t change, because change is too hard. It takes too much time and effort.
The truth is that change is instantaneous. The only thing tying us to a given reality is the story we tell ourselves about it. So we can simply tell ourselves a new story, and it is so.
It’s our behavior, our habits, that take time and effort to change.
The good news, though, is that the moment you realign to your true desire, the obstacles on your path will make themselves known. Then it’s just a matter of removing them.
The better news is that to remove obstacles from your path, all you have to do is retract your energy and focus from those things and redirect them toward your desire.
These energy transfers work best in small steps I like to call “micro-shifts.” A micro-shift is a tiny behavioral change that is easy to remember and repeat, which moves you away from the old story and toward the new one.
For example, let’s say you’ve identified self-judgment as an obstacle to the life you desire, and you want to shift your energy away from it. Each time you notice a self-critical thought pop up, add “and that’s awesome, because…”
“I really put my foot in my mouth at that interview this morning” would become, “I really put my foot in my mouth at that interview this morning, and that’s awesome because vulnerability is my super-power, and I want to attract the kind of people who value that.”
Or let’s say you’re releasing the story that you never have enough [time, money, opportunities, etc.] and embracing the story that abundance flows to you and through you continuously. When you catch yourself repeating the “not enough” story, simply challenge it by noticing and appreciating the abundance all around you.
In fact, take a moment right now to celebrate some abundance. Look at the device you’re reading this on. What a miracle of modern technology! This device allows you to access nearly the whole of recorded human knowledge. Incredible!
And hey, look! You just took the time to prioritize appreciating abundance. Turns out you own your time, completely. How about that?
After that first micro-shift, more will follow automatically, until one day you look around and realize your life has transformed completely.
That’s right: at any given moment, you are only one micro-shift away from transforming your life. And you’re only one commitment away from making that micro-shift.
What will you commit to shifting today?
Better shelter in place and get your head between your knees, cuz this lady's peppering us with truth bombs! This is spot on Adrienne.... And, I'm delighted to say that my simple "candle trick" has remained consistent, evolved, and continues to radiate inexplicable progress within the hardest to reach corners of my life. What can I say besides thank you? Hope you're finding joy today, and that you know how much you matter.
Thank you
